EPA Conducted Comprehensive 2-Day Inspection in February After Community Members Urged Feds to Exercise their Regulatory Oversight

Report Confirms What Community Members Have Been Saying for Years

Sunland Park, NM—The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released an inspection report on May 14, 2025, of the Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA) that contains dozens of Areas of Concern documented with photographs and indicates a consistent pattern of years of neglect, underfunding, and mismanagement impacting both water quality and worker safety in Sunland Park and Santa Teresa.

The 154-page report, which can be accessed here, was based on an on-site inspection of CRRUA conducted by EPA on February 4-5, 2025, after community members met with EPA in October 2024, and subsequently filed a written request for inspection on December 20, 2024.
