Declaration of Dr. Richard Abitz
My name is Richard J. Abitz. The opinions expressed herein are my own and are held to a reasonable degree of scientific certainty. My education and experience as a professional geologist are described in my vita, attached to this declaration as Exhibit A. I have a Doctor of Philosophy in geology (emphasis in geochemistry) from the University of New Mexico and over 38 years of experience as an environmental consultant dealing with problems associated with the solubility and mobility of hazardous and radioactive elements in the sediment/water environment of major aquifers. My declaration is given in support of several of the contentions raised by the State of New Mexico’s petition (EC-1, EC-2, EC-7, SC-1, SC-2, and SC-3) on the inability of the mining industry to restore groundwater quality in an aquifer that has been subject to uranium ISR mining. …
