New Mexico’s Department of Health Secretary will be in Sunland Park Sept. 16 as part of town hall to discuss the quality of water available to area residents.

Sec. Patrick Allen will be joined by Sydney Lienemann, deputy secretary of the New Mexico Environment Department and water and environmental health experts, according to a news release from the Department of Health.

NMED said 20,000 water users in Sunland Park and Santa Teresa are served by the Camino Real Regional Utility Authority, a water district that tested positive for arsenic in 2023.

“It’s clear that people are concerned about the quality of their water,” Allen said. “There has been lots of news that has an impact on people’s water. Is the water safe to drink, cook with and bathe? Part of what we will be able to do is share information on those things and where the utility is in terms of complying.”…
