SANTA FE — The Multicultural Alliance for a Safe Environment and Amigos Bravos said Thursday they will appeal a decision by the New Mexico Mining Commission which allows the Mount Taylor Mine to go forward with its plans to restart uranium mining in the Grants Mineral District.

The order clarified the narrow 4-3 decision the Commission took July 2 when it denied the petition from MASE and Amigos Bravos asking the Commission to reverse the decision to issue the permit.

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Mining Commission released a written decision Friday stating its rationale for not reversing a decision by the Mining and Minerals Division director to grant Rio Grande Resources Corp.’s application to return the Mount Taylor Mine to active status.

The Multicultural Alliance for a Safe Environment and Amigos Bravos, in a petition filed Feb. 28, challenged the director’s decision, asking the Mining Commission to consider whether the New Mexico Mining Act authorizes the director to approve the permit revision in the absence of actual mineral production.
