A proposal that would have paved the way for industrial uses inside Santolina hit rough waters Wednesday as the Bernalillo County Planning Commission opposed amendments to the site’s previously approved master plan.

The owners of the nearly 14,000-acre Santolina site on the Southwest Mesa want to use 630 acres for waste disposal, recycling and solar/alternative energy generation. Their new, targeted proposal requires changes to Santolina’s previously approved Level A Master Plan since it accelerates Santolina’s nonresidential development and because it changes the water strategy. In lieu of tapping into the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority system, Santolina developers say the proposed industrial users would rely instead on water hauled to the site….
